OK, so I talked to this guy off and on for a couple of hours tonight and he wants to win this weekend. He really wants to get a win on his dog. But if he doesn't he will be ok. He might get it the next weekend, or the one after that. He knows it is coming and he will keep after it until he gets it.
And after our conversation was over, that was the thing that stuck with me the most. He knows what he likes and he has a plan. He isn't after something today. He definitely does not want a one hit wonder. He wants a kennel full of dogs that just keep coming and meet his standard.
A win Saturday would be great. The priority though is to win in a year, and win in two years, and win in three years, and . . . He is making plans. Breedings that will happen in a couple of years are already being planned. The best thing about owning his best dog is how he might reproduce.
Conversations like this our so valuable to me. They make me think about if I am headed in the right direction. They make me consider if my young dogs, in two or three years will measure up. Will they be able to compete? Am I considering everything I need to if I want to raise the best dogs possible?
Only time will tell how this plays out. A decision here and another there will guide the directions of my kennel. At the same time, many other beaglers are making similar decisions. One thing that helps though is talkin dogs. It make me think about where I am going and how it will turn out. Thanks for the time talking dogs. Hopefully I will see you down the road in the finals. :)
