I'll Take a Case
Ring of the phone
Him: Yeah, I'm lookin for a dog.
Me: Okay, what are you looking for?
Him: Well, I want a started dog.
Me: Okay, well I don't have any now, but I might have some this summer.
Him: How much?
Me: Ohhh, probably $200 - 300.
Him: I want somethin that will hunt as soon as I turn it loose.
Me: Yeah, it's no fun when your dog won't hunt.
Him: I'm tired of jumpin the rabbits. I want somethin that will jump rabbits so I can shoot them.
Me: Yeah, me too.
Him: I got this dog but he won't hunt. I have to jump the rabbits.
Him: And he runs deer. I don't want a dog that will run deer.
Him: I shocked him and now he won't hunt.
Him: I want a dog that will hunt and won't run deer.
Him: I had these two dogs and they could really run. They would hunt as soon as you turned them loose. When they jumped a rabbit, they ran it til I killed it.
Me: Oh, what happened to them?
Him: I had to get rid of them. I killed a bunch of rabbits but there were more rabbits back then. We always killed our limit before noon.
Me: Not many rabbits up by you?
Him: Not like there used to be, but my one little dog always found rabbits. I want one like him.
Me: A good one huh?
Him: He was the best, but I got rid of him. Now I need a dog to kill rabbits.
Me: Just a started dog huh?
Him: Yeah, but I want somethin that will NOT run deer and it needs to hunt as soon as I turn it loose.
Him: I want a dog so I can shoot some rabbits next year. I want a good started dog.
Me: Okay, I'll let you know as soon as I have one.
Him: I want somethin good.
Me: Okay, talk to you later.

If I could only find someone to bring me a case of those $200 started dogs by Saturday I might have found a new retirement plan.
I have to be honest about our started dogs. Usually they hunt really well, but sometimes, especially with a young one, they may be a little confused and need training. Once in a while they will loose a rabbit, and one time a long time ago, one ran a deer. I know, sad but true. :)
