It's cutting them loose and having the pack run the rabbit until it gives up and goes in a hole or gets caught. And although the dogs usually don't catch it, they run like they want to. Just me and my pack of hounds, in any condition, on any day, in the roughest places I can find . . .

Who Says You Can't Run Dogs Where You Deer Hunt

Anyone who runs hounds has a problem with deer hunters sooner or later.  They are so afraid that we will run off that trophy buck.  No matter what we say to try to convince them, they are sure that our dogs chase off all the deer.

Although we know better, it's hard to prove it, but I had proof positive this year.  At Farmer's where I have run once or twice a week all year long for the last three years, they killed three deer on Tuesday morning including the monster in the picture.

All three deer were killed within 150 yards of where I park.  The buck in the picture was shot within 75 yards of where the truck was the night before.  I had walked within a few feet of where Jerry killed him.

The thing that most deer hunters would find unbelievable is that I ran there until about 10:30 P.M. on Monday night.  I had four hours of good running with plenty of rabbits.  So the next time someone says the beagles run off deer, I am not going to argue, I will just show them this picture.  :)
