It's cutting them loose and having the pack run the rabbit until it gives up and goes in a hole or gets caught. And although the dogs usually don't catch it, they run like they want to. Just me and my pack of hounds, in any condition, on any day, in the roughest places I can find . . .

Running During Deer Season

This week is deer season so all running will have to be after dark thirty.  Tonight (11/25/12) I headed for Farmer's, a spot close to the house with about 100 acres of swithchgrass surrounding some ditches and cut over woods.  There was not going to be much time to run considering it was after 6:00 PM before I could start.

Rabbit seemed to be out tonight. Neal jumped the first rabbit and the dogs ran fairly well for the next couple of hours. There were several splits and two packs ran for at least twenty minutes at one point.

For the last hour I picked up half the pack and just ran four dogs, Chip, Rambler, Diamond, and Rascal. Chip had the two best checks when they struggled getting through big sections of dry leaves.

I ran Neal, Tony, Dixie, Miss, Chip, Rambler, Diamond, and Rascal. Temperatures were in the 30's
